I'm not a fan of the numerical "out of 10" system when reviewing media (shout out to the heated debates over "7.5"). My approach, while techincally a mirror to a 5-star scale, tries to emphasize an emotion behind each rank. This page will quickly break down each one.
Reserved for all-time favorite characters/products/etc.
Essentially a "second best" rank. The related topic won’t get super ecstatic fangirl rambles out of me, but they’re still fantastic.
A general positive feeling. I aim to explain my opinions in detail, but in a casual conversation I’d say that “I like this thing; it’s neat.”
The ultimate middle-of the-road for my ratings.
This is where things become negative, but not heavily pessimistic. I can often see why other people would like the discussed topic.
Having an unpleasant construction or concepts with shoddy execution fit under this category. However, this isn’t the worst rank I can give. If even one redeeming quality is present, I often “boost” the final verdict to this.
The bottom of the barrel. If I could, I’d jettison the subject to the nearest garbage pail. My purest cynicism unleashes when I feel this negative.
